Volunteering is time well spent
Our small local charity was started by a group of volunteer parents and medical staff at Sheffield Children’s Hospital in 1964. From that time till now Sheffield ASBAH (SHASBAH) has been run by volunteers, who have provided a helping hand to families affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related conditions across the Sheffield postal district.
The SHASBAH committee is run by volunteers with personal experience of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. We now employ a befriending coordinator, a volunteer coordinator, a sessional events worker and vital admin support to keep our services running, all on a part-time basis. SHASBAH now has over 150 members plus their families throughout the Sheffield postcode.
Our volunteer coordinator will take you through the safeguarding procedures, such as DBS checks and taking up your references before your interview. Then, if your application is successful, our coordinator with give you ongoing support on the phone, online or in person when volunteering for our charity.
