5 Accessible Things To Do in April

April is here and lockdown is slowly easing. We’re free to get out and about and enjoy Spring! Every month, we collect ideas of accessible things to do around Sheffield and put them in a guide for our members. After a long winter, let’s make the most of the weather and looser restrictions this month. Here are our accessible activities for April…

1. Enjoy Spring in the Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are the perfect place to see Spring in all its glory. Did you know there are eighteen different garden areas? There are lots of different routes to explore and hidden corners to find. Look out for the magnolia blooming at this time of year! AccessAble has a guide to the Botanical Gardens if you’d like help with planning your trip.

2. Make some chocolate Easter nests

Easter nests are an easy, seasonal baking idea. They’re also a great way to use up leftover Easter eggs (if you have any…). Click here for a good recipe. As always, we’d love to see photos of your creations!

3. Join us on a trip to Ladybower Fisheries

That’s right, we’re finally able to get back to Ladybower Fisheries! Accessibility Fishing want to provide opportunities for all to get on the open water and have an unforgettable day out. They have easy access pontoons, adapted fishing equipment, wheelchair-accessible boats and more. No fishing experience is required, beginners are welcome! Check out their website for more information.

SHASBAH are running our first trip of the year on 17th April. Get in touch if you’re interested. We can sort out transport with you.

4. Do a litter pick for Earth Day (22nd)

Earth Day is on 22nd April. Get involved on a local level by helping to clean up your community! Clean-ups are a safe, satisfying and accessible way to make a difference. Just take a litter pick and a bag with you on a walk. Find out more here. You can even take photos and share them on social media to raise awareness. There are 50 more ideas of how to celebrate Earth Day and make a positive impact on their website. Click here to find them.

5. Find the Quotes for Hope in Fitzalan Square

Local artist, Sarah Wilson, has teamed up with independent business, DINA, to create ‘Quotes for Hope’. The quotes are hung in Fitzalan Square from 25th March until 25th April and were contributed by fellow Sheffield artists. There are also some heart-warming thoughts from local pre-schoolers. Don’t miss it!
