The Ultimate Accessible Gift Guide

Here at SHASBAH, we know how tricky Christmas shopping can be. However, there’s nothing better than giving someone the perfect present. We thought we’d make it easier for you by putting together an Accessible Gift Guide for the people in your life with additional needs. We’ve got you covered, with something for all ages and all budgets.

Photos of gifts 1 to 5 in the accessible gift guide: A blue weighted blanket, a brown pair of fingerless wheelchair gloves, green kinetic sand, a cup holder attachment for a wheelchair and a brown pair of zip up trainers.

1. Weighted Blanket

The gift for the person in your life who needs to relax! A weighted blanket can help with anxiety, provide sensory stimulation and even improve sleep. They can even ease twitching or restless leg syndrome.

2. Wheelchair Gloves

Wheelchair gloves are designed to give comfort and protection to wheelchair users. They help to prevent blisters and ease pressure on joints, as well as keeping you warm. There are lots of different styles, so you can customise this gift to suit the person you’re buying for.

3. Kinetic Sand

Possibly the best sensory toy to come out of the past few years. All the fun of the sandpit, with none of the mess! To be honest, we know a lot of grown ups who enjoy playing with this too…

4. Cup Holder Chair Attachment

The ability to carry a hot drink around is surely the ideal winter gift. Why not couple it with a funky reusable cup to complete the package?

5. Billy Footwear

Billy Footwear are doing great things in accessible fashion. Their shoes are super-cool and come in lots of different styles. Forget the clumpy soles of the past! The best part though is their zip design, which means they’re much easier to put on over AFOs. Get these to treat a special person.

Gift 6-10 of the accessible gift guide: a black tablet cushion, a wheelchair cosy, a lego figure in a wheelchair, a pair of flowery compression socks and a pair of orange ear defenders.

6. Tablet Cushion

A tablet cushion props your tablet up for you while you lie back and relax. Could also be used for a Kindle or phone and comes recommended by a SHASBAH staff member for supporting accessible TV remotes.

7. Wheelchair Cosy

Enjoy days out more with a warm and waterproof wheelchair cosy. This will be a much-appreciated gift for any wheelchair user who has to brave the Great British Weather on a regular basis! This version comes in lots of fun patterns, as well as kid’s and adult’s sizes.

8. LEGO Wheelchair

Positive representation matters! We think this would be a great gift for any child, regardless of their mobility needs. Let’s celebrate and normalise wheelchairs by including them in our children’s play. This one’s a no-brainer.

9. Not Your Grandma’s Compression Socks

Potentially the best-looking mobility aids we’ve ever seen. Bring some much-needed joy into getting dressed with these fabulous compression socks. Not only that, but you’ll also be supporting a brilliant small business with your purchase.

10. Ear Defenders

If you know someone with sensory processing issues, ear defenders could be the thing. Ear defenders help reduce the sounds of the world, which can otherwise be overwhelming. Make their world a safer space with this gift.
